Well, here goes.  I have a 96 LT4, and I wanted to get a frame cross member, now Mike Yaeger from MMMW's hasn't had them for sometime in their catalog.  My question is, has anyone bought one and never installed on their C4?  I'm not going auto-crossing just yet, but would like the frame a little more flex free- thanks- Phil Anderson

Are you talking about the bar that goes across the front suspension, just in front of the engine, tying the L/R upper suspension together?

No sir, what I'm talking about is a frame x-member that goes directly under the chasis by the mid-pont of the frame to eleminaye frame flex with the targa top off, or the convert. top dow.  I believe it was 1 x4 flat that was bolted to each side of the frame rails.  Regards Phil

That would be the convertible reinforcement "X" member. They do help with chassi flex, but sure make it a pita the service the trans....especially on automatics! Censored

I haven't seen one advertised anywhere lately, but you might be able to find a factory set-up somewhere...e-bay, or salvage yard?

Thanks Adams Apple, the last time I saw an ad in Corvette Fever was the mid 90's.  I stopped by Mid Americas booth at the Bloomington Gold show, and they said they discontinued a few years back due to low sales #'s.  They wouldn't tell me who made them for them.  Guess I'll have to buy products form Corvette Central.  Thanks for your help-Phil

Hey Adams, just went to Corvette Central's online C-4 catalogue, and guess what I found, yepper.  They still stock the unit.  Only drawback is 400.00 plus S&H worth it?  I'vr not had the targa off since I bought the 96 so I don't know if it would make a significant change or not.  I'll have to some financial soul searching.  Thanks for your help-Flandy

I'd check into a salvage yard for a used one. You'll need to drill a couple of holes to install one anyway, whether it's factory, or aftermarket. They do help some with chassis flex on convertibles, and a lot of folks put them on their coupes, too...sure can't hurt, if you can get one at a reasonable price...
