I'm fixing to replace my worn out shocks. Do I need to go with original equipment, or try to go to a performance shock? I don't want to have to start changing other things out to make them fit. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Stock suspension with normal driving, and stock shocks are perfectly fine, or even regular Bilstiens.
Anything else; you need to post the particulars.
I need to replace my rear shocks on my 94 with FX3 (Selective Ride Control). Do I need to replace them with FX3 shocks or is it possible, and safe, to replace them with regular shocks and disable the FX3. If so, where can I fine out how to disable the system?
Mine had Bilstiens on it and I replaced them with the same. I don't know about yours with the select ride, but I can tell a difference with the new shocks. I'm happy with them.
Any aftermarket shock will fit right on but Bilsteins have a lifetime warranty. Also, Bilsteins dampen in both directions as opposed to something like a Sensa-Trac.

I'm curious as to what you did with your car in regards to replacing the rear shocks on your FX-3 equipped vette, I also have a car with FX-3 and would like to replace the shocks, just because of there age, but holy crap, to replace all 4 shocks and actuators is nearly $2000.00. If you replaced with "regular" shocks, did it produce a trouble code? good luck!
both rears on mine are actually leaking fairly badly, but to replace 2 rear shocks along with actuators is just about $1000.00~!!!!, clearly a ridiculous price-tag, I was just wondering if replacing with a good after market high performance shock will cause a service FX-3 indicator light on the dash. I've also read that certain suspension system faults will cause the car to be limited to a 70mph top speed.

Where ever you read that from ...not true. And if it were my primary goal would be to totally eliminate the system.
Using any thng other than FX-3 compatible will make the system inoperable. The plastic parts in the actuators wear too as I suspect you already know. There may be FX-3 shocks available in the aftermarket sector. If you are planning to use a standard shock and want to see if the MIL on the dash will come on then just remove the actuators from the shocks WITHOUT disconnecting them and then drive it around for a while.
Also on Cadillac one can program the function out of the shock system through the Body Control Module, I dont know if Corvette has that capability.
