I'm curious as to what you did with your car in regards to replacing the rear shocks on your FX-3 equipped vette, I also have a car with FX-3 and would like to replace the shocks, just because of there age, but holy crap, to replace all 4 shocks and actuators is nearly $2000.00. If you replaced with "regular" shocks, did it produce a trouble code? good luck!

just wondering if you ever got any information in regards to replacing your FX-3 equipped vette's shocks??, I'm in a similar situation with my 95 roadster, and I'm curious to know what you did with yours

Why replace them if they still dampen and are not leaking?

both rears on mine are actually leaking fairly badly, but to replace 2 rear shocks along with actuators is just about $1000.00~!!!!, clearly a ridiculous price-tag, I was just wondering if replacing with a good after market high performance shock will cause a service FX-3 indicator light on the dash. I've also read that certain suspension system faults will cause the car to be limited to a 70mph top speed.

Where ever you read that from ...not true. And if it were my primary goal would be to totally eliminate the system.

Using any thng other than FX-3 compatible will make the system inoperable. The plastic parts in the actuators wear too as I suspect you already know. There may be FX-3 shocks available in the aftermarket sector. If you are planning to use a standard shock and want to see if the MIL on the dash will come on then just remove the actuators from the shocks WITHOUT disconnecting them and then drive it around for a while.

Also on Cadillac one can program the function out of the shock system through the Body Control Module, I dont know if Corvette has that capability.

I didn't have the FX-3 on mine, but my shocks were worn out.

I'm  a Bilstein fan., If they are good enough for GM, Toyota, Porsche ETC to use them on their factory cars then I think they have something. And they have a lifetime warranty.

Best place I found to buy them and the only place I found that sells 95-96 Z51 shocks...

I ended up buying the FX3 Bilteins from Ecklers, the bushings from MidAmerica. Replaced them yesterday without any problems, rides a lot better now. The actuators were still working so it was worth it to buy the fx3 shocks.

thanks for the information, now that the weather is getting better, i'm going to need to make a decision on what to do about the shocks. I hate to remove the adjustable shocks and replace with standard, but there awfully expensive. I'll keep you posted.............

I just replaced my base 1994 OE with the Bilstein Z51 spec dampers and wow what a difference. My shocks were absolutely shot. I purchased the car about six months ago and have been taking care of neglected maintenance items since. This shock replacement elevated the ride and handling dramatically. I did this week in my garage in a couple hours, easy job. There is a good YouTube video for the rear shocks and after completing that you can tackle the front without issue. With regards to the fx3, I would stick with that system. Those fx3 shocks can be sent to Bilstein and rebuilt lots to of guys do it that way. As for the actuators pull the ne off at a time and have a friend key up the ignition to the accessories point. While you are holding it, you should feel and hear the actuator test cycle.
