I just had the same problem same tire size for my 84 , searched all over for a comporable tire. Found the best tire at that size was the Goodrich G-sport. Comes in our size and the best price believe it or not was Sears at $127/tire. I was comfortable going to the Toms River Sears because they have a tech that has owned and worked on vettes.. He reccomended that tire and they are great....

I put some Kumhos on my '85 in that size. They had them at Discount Tire. So far, they've been really good tires. Ride good, and are fairly quiet. If you have the 9 1/2" rear rims, you'll definitely want to go to a wider tire on the rear. I didn't even consider that when I got mine, and the 255/50 is a bit too narrow for the 9 1/2" rims...

I have 9 1/2" rear wheels on my 84 and didn't even think of going with a wider tire, I just replaced all 4 with 255/50 which was the original size... But looking at it in retrospect, I agree with you.....

sometimes you get the best prices where you don't expect them (sears). my 90 has 17" rims and it had the kumhos on it. they have been ok as far as i am concerned.
my only question about going to a wider tire... is there any clearance problems to watch for?
