After purchasing my "86" vette, I have found that I have no key or socket to unlock my locked wheel lug nut. In "Corvet Specs" the correct # of the locking lug nuts is anti theft M12 X 1.5-6H. Could anyone tell me what brand of nuts these are (Gorilla, McGard, etc.) so that I may purchase the key?

[/QUOTE] M12 X 1.5 is the diameter/size and thread pitch of the wheel stud and lug nut. Assuming your Vette has OEM wheel locks--a local Chevy dealer should have wheel lock "master sets" from which they could determine what "key" would fit and order one for you.BTW--I also thought I didn't have a "lock key" for mine--turns out it was wrapped in plastic under the passenger seat (not where it was supposed to be)
If you're sure you've checked all the compartments/nooks and crannies these cars have--- then I'd try the Chevy dealer

Thanks very much for your quick reply. I talked to my dealer before, and they told me that they just take a socket that is a little smaller and beat it on. I don't want to do that. I really don't want to mess up anything. I am going to go to the parts department of my local dealer tomorrow morning and take your advice to try to order one. In the mean time, I am going to do some more looking around in the car. I think I have already covered all of it, but it never hurts to double check. Thanks again for your advice. Happy "vette" trails to you!!!
Hmmm...let me explain further (my bad)
When I was speaking of OEM wheel lock "master sets" ---the dealers Service Dept. should have those to remove wheels when they need to and can't locate the customers "key". Each one is individually numbered so that once the correct "key" is found, the Parts Dept. should be able to use that number to order you the correct key. This would be true ONLY if you have factory wheel locks.
This is true of the dealership where I work now , but it's been a few years since I worked for Chevy.
If your locks are aftermarket, there are special sockets made solely for the purpose of removing wheel locks --they have teeth/ridges which grip the lock allowing it to be removed. The lock itself will be trashed in the operation, which of course would mean buying a new set. I'll also mention this---care /caution needs to be taken when removing the "locks"--I've seen wheels themselves damaged by someone not having the proper tools.
Hope this has helped and Good Luck!!
