CD not working (1/3)

AM/FM and cassette work fine but the CD won't take a disc in. Book says to turn the unit on and insert the CD which should go in and start playing (showing info on the display screen). No go.

Not hot, not cold, not wet -- summer evening in garage so no outside potential problems

In case there is a cd left in there is there any way to find out?

Where to start to solve this issue?

Thanks

Colin.

Probably one of the best experts available for Corvette audio problems can be had by calling Dr. Don's in Texas.  I recently used him to repair the Bose head unit in my godson's 1990 ZR-1, and the service was fantastic.  Think about one day turn around!!  He also answered questions for me when I called him, so I think you might try the same.  In any event, here's a link to his website: http://www.doctordons.com/   Hope this helps.

Great lead Joe, thanks. I'll give 'em a try.

EDIT:  I emailed the 'doctor' who diagnosed my problem and came up with a solution.....

As you said: very helpful and knowledgeable.

Apparently I need a new "CD Mecha" (as in CD mechanism) which can be installed fairly easily with their instructions. Cost is a little prohibitive but probably reasonable by today's standards.

$300 + $40 shipping to Canada.

They did offer to recondition the whole unit: radio, cd, and cassette for about $430 which is reasonable but shipping is a bit higher at $65 from Texas to here but probably much more from here to Texas.

More concerning is shipping. I've received some pretty beat up stuff  that's travelled thru US and Canada shipping/Postal service.

I can appreciate that Doctor Don's would package equipment very well but who knows how badly this package can be banged around.

Maybe I can get a local shop to order what I need from Texas. Not likely but worth a try.

Thanks Joe -- Dr. Don's looks and sounds top drawer for sure. I just wish I lived closer.

Nice to know there is a fix. I'd like it to work. It's the only thing on the car that needs fixing.
