i was reading an older post back in 011  they where talking about replaceing the carpet. and some type of pre cut sound deading stuff.  one person said when he replaced his carpet he found cracks in the floor .  what would cause this?   weard.  how could this happen. i thought the floor was heavy duty and part of the struture.  interesting......has anyone else ran into this before?

Hey Jonney,
I read this somewhere too and the cause is either someone not using the right jack points or a real bad bottoming on something hard. Our C4's have fiberglass (SMC) floor pans from about the front of the seat cushion and forward to the firewall. Behind and around is steel but to save weight they went with glass where your feet rest. Not common that it cracks on it's own.

I too have a nice long crack toward the center of the drivers floor. It looks to me that as stated above that someone misplaced a jack and cracked it very nicely. Seems like every time I get in or out I hear it popping. Guess I'd better repair it soon. My 85 also had similar issues with the floor. Sure wish these so call 'mechanics' would be a little more careful. (and I don't necessarily mean a 'mechanic' as much as I mean those who think they are and should leave some things to a real mechanic) In any case, people should be a little more careful because the next owner may not appreciate the help.
