Topic: 1986 Indy 500 Pace Car??
in Forum: C4 Special Editions Discussion
Hello. Im a newer corvette owner. I have 2 C6's.
I was interested in a 1970 Opel GT, and when I showed up to the gentleman's house, a 1986 Indy 500 Pace Car (or a replica) was sitting in the front yard. I talked him into selling it to me, and drove it 60 miles home.
Ive ran the carfax and all other websites I could find to try to verify its Indy 500 authenticity, but I've had no luck, and I'm looking for help.
The vin is: 1G1YY6788G5902735
Thank you.

ALL 1986 convertibles were Pace Cars, regardless of color or interior(The actual Pace Car was yellow). They all came with the Pace Car decals, to be installed either by the dealer, of the owner. If your car is a convertible, it is, technically, a Pace Car. You can get Pace Car decals if you want, and have them applied, and be legit.

I'm not really sure what you mean by "verify its Indy 500 authenticity".
I can tell you that all 1986 Corvette Convertibles sold were designated as pace car replicas regardless of color or option content, and all included decal packages for dealer or customer installation. The actual Indy Pace Car was yellow and 732 yellow 1986 convertibles were sold.
