I have a 1985 corvette with a 4+3 transmission, could not get it out of reverse, took it to a transmission shop, guy says I need a transmission. So I bought one, he installed it I had the fly wheel turned and bought a new clutch also. The car is still stuck in reverse, transmission guy says he doesn't want to work on it any more. Any ideas what I should try next?

"Stuck" in Reverse (ie, you can't move the shifter out of reverse), or the car won't MOVE in Reverse?
The overdrive has a sprag clutch and spring tension on the direct clutches that allows the car to back up when torque is 'backwards' through the overdrive. Burned direct clutches in the overdrive result in the car won't move in reverse.
Either way, the problem is most likely in the overdrive, not the 4-speed transmission. Your "transmission shop" isn't very good if they can't figure this out.
They made a BIG mistake with their diagnosis, and now "won't work on it any more"? Personally, I'd say "Fine. I'll take it somewhere that can fix it. But I want my money back spent on the non-fix". If they refuse, take them to Small Claims.

Thanks for the input, this was so disappointing, now I have to go get the car and take it somewhere else. After this nightmare "transmission specialist" I'm not sure I can trust a mechanic, I feel like he took advantage of a 17 year old kid and his mom.
