Vette(s): 1992 Red coupe with saddle interior. It has a 6 speed manual transmission, which was an absolute requirement when I was looking for the car. It is also still running on its original Goodyear tires.
I decided to paint the calipers on my 92 coupe.  After painting them I was in the process of reinstalling them with the two existing attaching bolts but didn't have the tightening specs.  I looked the spec up in the service manual and it indicated that the attaching bolts have a sealant at the factory and that you should replace the bolts with new ones which would have  the proper sealant.  It then said to tighten the bolts to 15 ft-lbs.  The approach called for in the service manual  seems to be a little much beside the fact that I am fairly certain that finding the new hardware with the factory sealant on it would be relatively difficult.  I am assuming that a Locktite product could be used on this as an alternative to replacing the hardware, I just don't know what the rating should be on the Locktite and whether the tightening spec in the service manual is still appropriate if I am going to use Locktite.  Anybody have any thoughts on this.

Go to a NAPA store, you can buy the kit with new bolts and spring retainers, maybe $15 if I remember correctly.  I put the low stress Locktite on (forget the color) on the bolts.

My car has 14000 miles on it, has never been in the rain.  The existing hardware is in perfect condition.  I'm not sure why I would replace the attaching bolts.  Am I missing something here.  I'm thinking I ought to be able to use a locktite type product.

Blue Loctite is all you need. But, 15 ft/lbs? That can't be right. Maybe for a 1/4-20.
These are metric bolts around 10mm. For Grade 8.8 that would be 33 ft/lbs. Grade 10.9 = 47 ft./lbs. 15 ft/lbs on brake caliper bolts seems kinda light. 51 ft/lbs seems about right.

Jim, according to my repair manual, the caliper mounting bracket bolts for 1985 and later are as follows:

front: 137 ft. lbs.
rear: 70 ft. lbs.

If re-using your existing bolts, be sure to wire-brush them clean before applying the loctite.

15 ft. lbs. torque is way too low for brake caliper mounting, way too low.  Check you manual again.  What you're referring to may be the slider pin bolts that the caliper slides or "floats" on.  Good luck and be safe in your work.

P.S.  If they are the slider pin bolts you're dealing with, the loctite goes on the threaded portion and a silicone lubricant goes on the long smooth pin area.
