Love driving my 86 C4 ( automatic) . Just got it last August with only 51,000 miles on it!. I had it repainted and redid the interior. I had wanted a vette since I was 8 years old ( my neighbor when I was growing up had a 68). I had a heart attack May 09 and after the 2nd time in the hospital I decided what the heck I want this. ( Dipped into retirement). Best car choice I ever made!!

Wow Clive, I agree that a manual transmission can be fun, but it is much nicer to have the choice. Take a nice automatic transmission, add a shift kit, and BAM you now have the best of both worlds, you can go from Auto to a 4 speed in a blink. While moving up thru the gears can still be pretty Elementary it's the down shifting and braking that really matters when "Driving the Car". All Vettes go fast moving forward, how long can you hold it at that speed and how quickly can you break it down before taking it back to the top. I have a shift kit and upgraded brakes with drilled and slotted rotors to disipate the heat and trust me I aint just Riding in it.....

[QUOTE=bluec4vette]Let me explain my situation. I bought my 95 vette in 2003. Few years after, I bought my house and two kids were borne. So, I have to spend lot of money for house and kids. In Japan, to have a license plate and drive a car on the public road, we must pay a tax around $1,000 par year, so now, my car doesn't have a license plate and can't be driven on the public road for this 5 years.
But I'm still a member of some corvette community here in Japan, also am having fun time with my vette friends.
Sometimes I get a problem with my car, then I try to fix the problem by myself. In that kind of situation, the forum is extremely useful for me to get hint and tips.
It's still hard to me to post my question in English, but I hope I can do so someday.

Your English is WAY better than my Japanese.

I was planning to enjoy driving my C4 to work the other day, but realised I had a brake problem. The left front caliper pins had seized and the inner pad was down to metal. I had to drive the wife's C5 instead. Bummer.
I sold my C3 and bought my second C4 for the simple reason I wanted reliability. Prior to this car I had 3 C3's, 1 C4 and 1 C4. This 10K mile 6 speed is my favorite ever

10K miles? Bet that was not a daily driver..... Nice car. still new. Should be a real eye grabber!

I purchased My 1992 Soft top this May as part of my bucket list I have always wanted a Corvette and a convertible but the practical side of me always won out and ended up with a family sedan instead. Finally at 67 I made my move. I have major regrets that I didn't listen to my heart years ago. Driving this car is such a thrill, I just totally enjoy it.
I have driven Corvettes over the years, but always disappointed in the ride, but not so with the C4 this baby has the ride control option, so if you want the performance ride you certainly can have it. I am a member of a large Corvette club, and I feel no embarassment displaying right along side C5's and C6's. In fact at shows and rallys I get as much attention as some of the Z06's.

Vette(s): 87 Red Coupe, not as pretty, had 213G miles, great running engine; got 20-21 around town, 27-28 on hwy; I got to drive a Vette, every day for 6 yrs. It was my first; so now I know what the fuss is all about. (Sold it 2015 for $3000, still ran great.)
The C4s are the best buying bargains, since a lot of guys want the older or newer 400+HP cars, but our 84-90 C4s, in particular, had HP in the 240+ range and, consequently, got better mileage and were not driven so hard, thus still in decent shape and running well. As for me, I drive a Corvette every day to work, 31-32 miles each way, and that's a privilege. I traded a Harley Sportster even-steven for it (was selling the bike for $6500) and put about $3000 into repairs, brakes, bearings, tires, etc., so I got a commuter-econo-Vette for under $10G. Not bad. I love the looks and sounds of the newer ones, but feel lucky to have one at all to commute in. Anyway, enjoy.

i think it is a priveledge to drive any vette. use my c4 as much as i can and my c3 a lot in the summer. i would love to get a c2 (63-67) but a little out of my price range. both of my vettes go like a bat out h___ so having a lot of hp that i will never use is no big deal to me. have fun driving it as much as i do driving mine.
