No one has mentioned Deep Purple yet. How about Highway Star? Actually any cut from the album Machine Head is suitable for driving. Smoke on the Water, and Space Truckin are also on this album. That's 3 excellent driving tunes.

"My Old 55" by Tom Waits is a great song when you are driving across country.  Just when you are tired of driving it make sense.

L.A Woman by the Doors.  Crank it up on a Delco Bose system, wind out the car and it is pure heaven.

Whenever Bob Seger's "Hollywood Nights" or "The Fire Inside" or "Katmandu" or "Shakedown" or "Rock and Roll Never Forgets" comes on I have to change stations - if I don't by the time the song is over I'm usually doing triple digits...!!!  There are several Doobie Brothers tunes that have the same result.
