I got messed over by a local shop, and I am not sure what all I am going to do..... went to a local Auto upholstry shop and got bids on replacing the saddle colored Carpeting in my 90. The Guy I chose advertises 30 years of experience in auto upholstry industry and guaranteed my satisfaction with the job. He gave me a comparable price that was somewhere in the middle of the quotes. I took the car to him on a Tuesday afternoon for what he said would be a maximum of two days of work, I was suppose to be able to pick up the car Thursday. I actually ended up getting the call to pick the car up late Friday evening. Finally at 11PM Friday night they said they were done. The carpet looks good, well installed, nice quality, good coloring. I pay the man for the job and I get in the car to leave, the doors wont close properly, the windows are in a bind and won't roll up all the way, the Door Ajar light wont go out, and the interior lights wont shut off.

The wife has already left and the car is the only way home for me, so we agree that next morning I am back first thing and they will fix it. To amke the long story short, after nothing but excuse after excuse, and finally loosing my temper and going off MAJOR TIME with them, I finally picked my car back up this evening (Tuesday Evening) This is 8 days they have had the car. It is much better but the doors are still not right and the driver window still has problems at the top. They now say this is the best they can do and it only needs a few days of remaining closed so it will "settle". Yea Right.......Angry

I absolutely refuse to let them touch the car again and I am guessing  will have to take the darn thing to someone else to fix. I am so mad I could burn the place down. I caught them in several lies about their work and intend to spread the word at every hot rod shop and event in the land (there are quite a few here.) But this will still not be enough to passify me, I could use some more suggestions on dealing with these idiots.

don't understand why changing the carpet would cause your windows not to work properly. even changing the carpet over the bulkheads shouldn't affect the windows or the doors shutting properly unless they used a thick shag rug. as those pieces come off the car they should not even affect the doors. i replaced the carpet on those as the carpet was worn off when i got the car. reglued the new carpet on and no problems.

when you find out what they did let us know. sometimes you cant always go by the price. it maybe better to pay a little more for a job to be done right.

Apparently he used a much thicker carpet, and instead of binding the edges, he folded it under and glued it down. So instead of having 2 pieces of factory carpet bumpng from the bulkhead to the door panel, there were 4 thicker pieces trying to fit into that tight area. That kicked the bottom of the doors out and put the door out of alignment causing the windows to rub against the new weather stripping I put in a couple weeks ago, too much friction for the windows and caused them to not go up all the way.

He has now replaced the carpet on the door panels and trimmed the bulkhead carpet in properly, But apparently the damage is done from him forcing the doors closed while it was wrong in the first place. I was just out looking at the doors and found where he stuck washers under the plastic strikers to move it out and get the "Door Ajar" light to go off.  I am really madder about the 8 days of them keeping the car and only working on it "Part Time" to fix the problem rather than to work on it full time and get it fixed. They were too busy doing other jobs and working on fixing their screw up in between those jobs.

Wow, I feel for you and hope it all works out in the long run. I'm sure you'll stay on each issue until it's resolved and hopefully won't loose to much hair in the process.

Last year Corvette Fever had a comprhensive tech article on adjusting the door windows that I used to solve a "jumping" problem I had on the passenger side. IMO the article is really good and can be found at http://www.corvettefever.com/techarticles/corp_0507w_window_adjustments/index.html

Vette(s): I have a 1996 Collector Edition coupe with the 6 speed/LT4 engine. Looks and runs like new. 203 coupes were exported to Canada for 1996 and of those, only 83 of them had the Z15 option.
Oh can I sympathize with you Trooper! I had one of my cars in a shop to have the carpet put in and the carpet that covers the transmission tunnel is held in place with clips so it can be removed. When the job was done (customers are not allowed in the shop) they handed me a handful of clips. I asked if they had used their own and they told me that they had glued it down! It wasn't supposed to be and rather than ask me first, they just went ahead and did it like similar cars by the same manufacturer.

So much for professional shops!

I talked to my attorney yesterday, he told me to take photos, then take the car to a shop and get a quote on what it's going to cost to fix it. Then to take the quote to the old shop and inform them they have to pay for the repairs, if they refuse we will sue them. This sounds like more fun than the proverbial Barrell of Monkeys...........

sometimes it is a lot easier said than done. some shops may not want to get involved as #!) they might know the other guy and be friends or #2) they mightfigure if something that they try to fix that the other guy did and may not come out to your satisfaction, you might wind up suing them. i would see if there were any adjustments i could make on my own. as far as the door ajar lights and interior lights that switch is on the doors. if it is the carpet on the bulkheads holding the door out too far take them off and see if there is a way to remove the bulkyness of them. good luck.

That would probably be true if I told then why they were fixing it, but I only intend to tell them WHAT I want fixed and get a price. Who knows what will happen, but I do intend to fight.......

Here we have 2 examples of shops that have NO CLUE about what they're doing, or how committed we Corvette owners are. I see it all the time here at the shop, when we get a Corvette in. The morons(that's right, I said morons) in the shop treat them like they do any other car, which is with NO RESPECT at all.
Doing interior work is hard enough without being stupid...add stupid to it, and it becomes a lawsuit.
Best of luck to ya, Trooper. I hope they will fix it without going into litigation, but....I wouldn't hold my breath. They may agree to re-do it, and then make it worse, just to pizz you off. IS that the only issue with the carpet(doors won't close properly), other than the bs on taking so long to f it up?
