Back from Carlisle with new parts in hand!
|UPDATED|8/31/2011 9:10:30 AM (AZT)|/UPDATED|
Installed new sun visors (the ones from goverment motors are filled with cardboard!) Not a good plan for a convertible at least. They did last almost 18 years though :-)
Picked up a set constructed by hand by Al Knoch interiors that seem to be a much better design and utilize the factory lighted mirror and fresh hardware. They were asking $229 for the pair but a big sign said they match all prices. I let them know the GM knock offs were $180 at Corvette America a few tents down and they guy said his were now on sale for $175! Better product IMHO. Installed easily, about a 45 minute project start to finish including clean up.
Picked up a 3 piece set of made in China plastic chin spoiler assembly from Corvette America for $35. I was a bit skeptical but the fit and finish was as good as factory and of course significantly cheaper. About an hour job re-using factory hardware and metal braces from the original install.
Take your time and watch how things come off and the re-assembly is a snap. TIP: DO NOT final tighten anything until all is assmebled on the car, then tighten at the end aligning things so they look perfect.
also picked up a convertible top clean and dress kit in a bag from a small vendor fronm New Jersey. I was somewhat concerned about this stuff being "snake oil" ($26.95 for the kit) but after having used the cleaner part I am now a believer. I had some oil stains on the top that I had tried almost every household cleaner and laundry degreaser known to man on without success. This stuff did the trick, just follow the directions and let it sit for 10-15 minutes after a light brushing and wham-o, no more grease spots!
Headed to fun fest in Effingham, Il. the middle of the month, can't wait!
BTW, the Vette was flawless on the 1100 mile round trip.

great finds. replacing the visors on mine were as you said easy. the only thing i will be doing is getting some kind of black dye as they are starting to fade. you can find some awesome deals and like you years ago i bought this cleaner and was skeptical about it. polished metal as bright as could be where others wouldn't even clean it up. have fun on your next trip.
