I was just out cruising in the vette, had the top off, beautifull sunny day. Decided to jump on the interstate and run down to the next exit for some Ice Cream. Shortly after getting on the big road I noticed a couple of Hondas coming up fast on my left and crowding both of those lanes. I was coming up quick on a semi ahead of me in my lane and had to slow down. As the hondas past me, the one closest to me (Lime Green with one of those bumble bee Mufflers) had a passenger that flipped me off and hollered something about the "Old Man". they were running about 100 or better as they rolled by.

Now me being a nice innocent "Old Man" (At least Old to a couple teen agers) thought it was time to share some "elder wisdom" with this new generation of hot rodders, as i reached down grabbed a lower gear and dropped the hammer on my 5.7 liter, L98, 350 cubic inch, tuned port injected, go fast. In no time at all I was up to 145 and nearly blew the Hondas off the road as this "Old man" showed the "Boys" what Muscle really looked like. They probably had gotten up to about 120 and the bumble bee muffler was about to explode. I simply smiled and nodded as I went by since I wasn't letting go of the steering wheel at that speed. When I slowed to exit they were still trying to race each other and the passenger simply waved and nodded this time......

It is proper to share our "Elder Wisdom" with the younger hot rodders when ever possible...

sometimes the wisdom would be to let them drive like idiots and not encourage them. should be enough to know that your car is more powerful. wouldn't have been too wise if something unforeseen happened. but shouldn't you have known that trooper being a state trooper?

Vette(s): 1989 Red Convertible - 160,000 fun-filled miles -

Couple of weeks ago I was hauling mulch in a F250 with a very large trailer and traveling the speed limit. Some knucklehead kid with his girlfriend came up behind me in a beat up Honda and passed me in a very dangerous S curve. I was already in a very bad mood and these 2 idiots really put me over the edge. About a mile further down the road we were side by side at a stop light and I was ready to jump out and kick his butt. Without any thought, I opened the door, stood up and started clapping and praising him for getting to the stop light first without killing anyone. I carried on for a good 60 seconds applauding him for being stupid. The blank look on his face was priceless and even better was how embarrassed his girlfriend was.

A week later a young man was killed on the same S curve making a dangerous pass. My wife drives this road everyday for work and she arrived at the accident scene about 5 minutes after it happened. It scares me to think how someones wreckless driving could hurt my wife or daughter.

When I look back, I am gratefull I was in the truck with trailer and not my Vette because I might have done something just as dangerous as this kid. I share my little story as a way of saying we're each responsible and accountable for our own actions. No matter what the other guy does we have to decide for ourselves how to act responsibly
