Do I have to set it top dead center or does it do it its self with the optical disk inside the distributor?

On the '95, the Opti is aligned by the use of a pin. As far as I can tell (and recall when I did mine) there is no way to install it out of alignment. It only goes one way. So no need to worry about TDC.

One word to the wise, get yourself a puller for the harmonic-balancer. Oh you CAN do it without one, but it WILL save you an extra hour or two of frustration!

I agree with GrimReaper 1995-96 use a cam pin for proper opti timing/alignment and I'll add this.....when installing the opti use your hand ONLY to seat it against the timing cover..if you have to use the bolts to seat the opti dist. against the timing cover it is not aligned correctly and you'll likely damage the opti. ( I also think there's a great detailed thread here from a member who replkaced his opti) LUCK

Take a good look at your water pump while you have it off. Did a cam change and found a few bearings on the WP were gone, would have led to a Opti failure soon after, if I didn't catch it. Opti was in very good shape (50k miles).
