First, let me say it is a small world indeed. I think that I am joining a world wide Corvette forum....and I did....only to find out the founder & moderator is from Duncanville, Texas. I grew up in the Duncanville area, went to kindergarten and first grade there, had a job there during high school, and used to go line up street races in the 7-11 parking lot. I am a Kimball grad, class of '78. Again, small world, huh?

My story is not head over heals Vette. I am a long time bracket racer and drag racer. For a number of years I had owned a dragster (class equivalent of Super Comp). On May 5th of this year, my entire racing operation which included two race ready dragsters, a 24' enclosed trailer, my Dodge quad cab pickup, and all of the tools and support equipment were stolen from my home. It was all hitched up from a trip to the racetrack the previous day. The thieves took advantage of the easy get away and took it all. I was, and still am, Shocked.

Since then. I have rethought such a re-investment of such money. Racing is a fun hobby, but getting robbed is not something I wanted to experience again. So, I decided on a street/strip car that can be street legal, garage kept, locked, secured and fully insured. The C4 made for a perfect platform for such a car. That's how I become a Corvette owner.

I admit, I am over my head when it comes to Vette knowledge. That is why I am here.

You do 1/8 or 1/4 stuff?

I haven't done 1/4 mile in sometime, although I have nothing against it. We have so many 1/8th mile tracks around D/FW that unless you are going to the Motorplex, you just won't be racing 1/4 mile. On faster cars, IHRA is much more driver friendly and customer oriented. NHRA treats the slower cars like step children and cash cows. As my licensing requirements grew, IHRA was just easier to deal with....so, I haven't been to the Plex in a while. The Vette will change that. At last count, I had been done the Motorplex 1/4 mile over 600 passes. So, 1/4 or 1/8th, I am not picky.

Are there any local Corvette clubs that I should be aware of or a part of?

Aware of? Sure.
Part of? Depends...I used to be a member of both the Corvette Legends of Texas(Founding member), and the Lone Start Corvette Club. Legends got to be too full of rich fancy pants guys that just paid for what they have, and wanted to rub everyone else's noses in it.
Lone Star is just TOO BIG. Funny thing is, the same guy started BOTH clubs.
We don't so any club stuff anymore, but there are plenty of them in the general area....just go to a meeting and see how they are. Some are more laid back, some are hard core....ya never know. Cowtown Corvettes in Ft. Worth seem to be pretty good folks, but....it's a looong way over there from where you are.
There used to be, and may still be, a club called Xtreme Corvette Club of Texas. They were more racing oriented....might be a good fit for ya if they're still around.
I haven't even been to a drag race in a hunert years....when I stopped racing, it was no fun to go watch, so we just quit going. Still enjoy a drag boat race every now and then, tho.
