I went to the January 2013 Mecum Auction in Kissimmee, Fl. My buddy and I split the cost of the bidders pass just so we could sit down front and watch all the great cars go across the auction block. The pass was in my name, and turned out to be my downfall, or windfall, as I wound up bidding on a great 1984 car, which was featured in "America's Sports Car" as the 1984 model:

The car had a little over 20,000 miles on it. It was very clean. Speaking to the prior owner, he had kept in a garage in South Florida for about 10 years, taking it out for a few shows a year. The reserve price was very low for an '84 in this condition, and I wound up getting it.
My plan from the start was to make this a resto-mod. Here's what it looks like today with new paint and anniversary stripes (it actually was assembled in 1983, but sold as an '84 model, so I figure it's justified, new 17" Verde Regency rims and a modified LeMans lighting kit (I put in an HID projector where the high beam was.)

A lot of tuning was required to make the Crossfire engine run acceptible, so my plan now is to put an LS-1 engine and electronic transmission in to get a reliable cruising/show car. That should happen next month after the fall car show circuit finishes up in Florida.
