What's the problem with the trans?

I have been troubleshooting the OD , it will not go into overdrive. I still have to get under the car to check the wiring to the transmission. OD has been serviced in the fall. I have bypassed everything at the computerand already repaired some wires at the relay.I get some gringing now and then with my foot on the clutch in neutral. If the unit is bad an F body T-5 might replace it. I found a website with all the directions.  http://members.cisdi.com/~anesthes/f-car-t5/  Looks like the way to go!

There is also a cable that runs to the throtle that could cause a No O/D problem if it is adjusted too tight. There is only the one solenoid in the trans to cancel/allow O/D. There haven't been any major issues with the solenoids, so it will prolly be a wiring issue, or the O/D unit is toast, which is more common. I've built plenty of the O/D units, and parts are available. With normal maintenance, they are good units. Problem is, most folks never pay any attention to the leaks, and they DO leak!
You could also install a later ZF 6 speed without too much hassle, since Corvettes came with them...just an idea. I don't believe a T5 will stand up in it under any heavy throttle apps....The later T56 is good, tho, and not too much larger...

They say... that the world class T-5 is good for 300 some HP but I would rather fix what I have unless it gets too expensive. I will check the cable when the snow melts Thumbs Up

Swap it out for a TH700R4 out of a 85-91 and have a GREAT 4-speed automatic that will handle all you can throw at it (if you have it upgraded ---doesn't take much).  I have one in my 85 Z51 and I can smoke the tires at will and no complaints at all from my trans......just the neighbors!!
