good day -  I have an old '84 that I originally bought for a parts car.  Although I have robbed a few parts off it, it's still a runner (and a 4 speed car).  I have it stored in a garage - I disconnect the battery and keep a tender on it.  Every time I reconnect the battery,  I have to jump the starter to get it to run.  After it's started,  it seems to start o.k.  so I'm guessing it might be the aftermarket alarm.  I'm wondering if anyone has had a similar problem, knows if there is a code for the 2 button key fob - or knows how to disconnect it.   Thanks

you have to check what model viper it is to see if it has a starter kill on it. all the wiring is probably done on the drivers side. to remove it i would disconnect the battery and remove all the wires that were tapped in and make sure that the original wires are secure. another thing to check for is a toggle switch that grounds out the system. if there is put it in the off position and then hook up battery. i have a remote start and if i dont shut it off the car will start as soon as i connect the battery. my sister has an explorer that i duct taped the hood switch that was installed for the system and car started fine. a garage told her they couldn't get it started.

Check for a large yellow wire under the dash/steering column that has been cut & spliced into the alarm system. That will be the starter interrupt. Tie the ends of the yellow wires for the car back together, and that will eliminate the alarm being the cause of a no crank.
You should also have a factory alarm. Does the "Security" lamp light up on the dash when you open the door, or flash?

joel i thought you disappeared. i was just going to say don't touch any yellow wires but then i remembered they didnt have air bags back then. good point about the wire but if he goes that far might as well take the whole thing out.

I've installed a LOT of "Lojack" type devices in the cars at the shop that are financed. 99% of them, regardless of make/model, have a yellow wire from the ignition switch going to the starter circuit. That's the one I cut, and splice in the ignition cut-off. I haven't looked at the wiring diagram for the '84, so I'm just going on instinct. I'll doublecheck once I get to the shop this morn.
For the most part, ANY SRS(airbag) wiring is a much smaller gauge wire, and are distinctively marked/labeled. I figured someone would question that, since SRS circuits are mandated to have yellow wiring...but there are other yellow wires in any system. Good catch Dave!

I'm still here...just "lurking"...

great wiring chart joel. heard horror stories about that yellow wire so i am extra careful around any yellow wire. i would imagine that the wiring chat for a 90 is almost the same.

90-93 Chart
Compare them yerself...

Just in case anyone wants to know, here's the link to Bulldog Security, an alarm co. that has the charts listed that I have been using, since it's a little quicker for me than diggin up a wiring diagram. Just click on the make, then the model, and then on the year(s). Some years use the same diagrams/wiring colors, but may have other wiring that is called out, such as for factory alarms, or PATS systems. This is just quick way to ID the wires...if you want to install an ignition cut-off switch, for instance, the yellow wire would be the one you would want to cut into to install a switch, and it would also be the one you would want to check if the car won't crank, or if there is some aftermarket system on there that has taken a dump, and won't let the car start....
