Posted this on other sites also hopefully someone here can help. Is there a fuse for the fog lights? When I changed the headlights from sealed beams to composite (H4 bulb, not LEDs) the fog lights quit working. I put the sealed beams back in and still no fog lights. Yes they worked before. I've looked through the manuals and can't find anything. HELP! PS it's a 91.
I tried to upload a copy of the 1988 electrical manual to show the headlight and fog light circuits but was not able to upload the pdf files. However, the schematics for the 1988 design has the headlight switch ahead of the fog light switch. The headlight switch has a circuit breaker built into the switch but since your headlights work, the breaker/switch is probably ok since the internal breaker is upstream of the actual switch. On my car, the fog lights appear to only work when the headlight switch is on or the parking lights are on plus the fog light switch is on. Since your headlights work, I would guess that you may have a ground problem on the fog light circuit. You may want to check the voltage going to the fog lights to make sure the switches are not the problem. If this is ok then you may need to check the grounds for both fog lights.
I hope this helps. Good luck.
Hello Rick
I checked my owners manual and shop manual, the fog lights are not listed in any fuse information. The only thing I find is that the fog lights will not work if the high beams are on. Just guessing, but the fog lights may just be part of the headlight circuit.
You changed out the headlights, did you perhaps revise some wiring in the process? Sorry can't be more help. I've had my 91 for 15 years and obviously even after that period of time it still contains mysteries.
Good luck
Thanks for your help. The ground is what just about everyone is saying! So I can see where my future is heading. LOL!
No just plug and play on the headlights. Everyone seems to be leaning towards a ground problem. So I guess I'll be redoing the ground leads. Thank for your help.
